Women's Swimming & Diving Team Garners Steve Looke Sportsmanship Award

SOUTH KINGSTON, R.I. -- The Bridgewater State University women's swimming and diving team was honored with the prestigious Steve Looke Team Sportsmanship Award for the first time in program history on Sunday during the closing ceremonies of the three-day New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Division II/III championships held at the University of Rhode Island.

The honor, named for long-time Norwich University Head Coach Steve Looke, and selected by a vote of the participating institutions, is annually bestowed upon the program that best exhibits the tenets of sportsmanship throughout the three-day event.

The BSU women's team tied for 13th place at the meet with an overall score of 232.5 points. Roger Williams University (1,453 pts.) captured top honors in the women's standings followed by Keene State College (1,386 pts.) and Simmons College (1,093 pts.).

Sophomore Abbie Grant (Mansfield, Mass.) posted the Bears' top finish on Sunday as she placed tenth in the 100 individual medley with a time of 1:06.31. Grant, classmate Shae Aiguier (Braintree, Mass.), senior Michaela Pereira (Rehoboth, Mass.) and freshman Nicole Moneghan (Lincoln, R.I.) also placed 11th in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:55.25.
