Women's Swimming & Divings Notches 151-104 Win Over Elms

CHICOPEE, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's swimming & diving team captured 11 of 14 events en route to a 151-104 victory over host Elms College on Wednesday evening at the Partyka Natatorium.

The Bears improve to 3-5 on the season in dual meet competition, while the Blazers fall to 1-6.

Junior Mikaela Ross (Andover, Mass.) and sophomore Amanda Brennen (Waltham, Mass.) each won two individual events and swam a leg on a winning relay.

Ross grabbed top honors in the 50 backstroke (36.80) and the 100 backstroke (1:22.20), while Brennen was the first to touch the wall in the 800 freestyle (11:28.85) and the 400 freestyle (5:34.77).

Ross, senior Michaela Pereira (Rehoboth, Mass.), sophomore Abbie Grant (Mansfield, Mass.) and freshman Haleigh Kent (Marshfield, Mass.) placed first in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:21.81.

Brennen, Grant, Kent and freshman Nicole Moneghan (Lincoln, R.I.) posted a winning time of 2:06.03 in the 200 freestyle relay.

Grand added an individual victory in the 100 butterfly (1:17.77).

Senior Olivia Sugrue (Wrentham, Mass.) and freshmen Emma Cardarelli (Waltham, Mass.), Julia Gagne (South Hadley, Mass.) and Caroline Hill (Bridgewater, Mass.) also posted individual event wins for the Bears. Sugrue in the 50 butterfly (36.28), Cardarelli in the 200 freestyle (2:38.84), Gagne in the 100 freestyle (1:10.26) and Hill in the 50 freestyle (31.70).

The Bears will be back in the pool on Saturday afternoon when they travel to WPI for a two o'clock tri-meet with the host Engineers and the Hawks of Roger Williams University.
