Women's Swimming & Diving Drops Close 135-127 Decision to Gordon

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's swimming & diving team came up just short in a 135-127 setback to Gordon College on Saturday afternoon at the Moriarty Pool.

The Bears (2-5) came away with six individual event victories in the meet with the Fighting Scots.

Gordon led 124-121 heading into the final event of the day, the 200 freestyle relay. The Fighting Scots picked up the win to earn the 11 first place points and secure the meet victory.

Senior Michaela Pereira (Rehoboth, Mass.) and sophomore Abbie Grant (Mansfield, Mass.) paced the Bears with two wins apiece. Pereira grabbed top honors in both the 50 breaststroke (36.03) and the 100 breaststroke (1:19.39), while Grant was the first to touch the wall in the 50 butterfly (29.11) as well as the 100 butterfly (1:05.30).

Junior Mikaela Ross (Andover, Mass.) added a win in the 100 individual medley (1:08.10), while freshman Nicole Moneghan (Lincoln, R.I.) placed first in the 200 freestyle (2:04.03).

"This was really just the beginning of somthing special for this group," said Head Coach Mike Caruso. "We have a tough 11 or so weeks of training ahead of us to prepare and get the focus on New Englands."

The BSU swimming and diving teams are off until after the New Year. The Bears travel to Elms College on Wednesday, January 6th for a four o'clock meet with the Blazers.
