Women's Swimming & Diving Posts 139-114 Win over Elms

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's swimming & diving team cruised to a 139-114 victory over visiting Elms College on Tuesday evening at the Dr. Mary Jo Moriarty Pool in Bridgewater.

The host Bears even their season dual meet record at 3-3 with the win, while the Blazers slip to 0-6.

The Bears touched the wall first in ten of 12 individual events and both relays.

Senior Kristen Carey (East Taunton, Mass.), sophomore Sarah Biltcliffe (Fall River, Mass.) and freshman Abbie Grant (Mansfield, Mass.) captured top honors in two events apiece.  Carey in the 200 freestyle (2:12.56) and 100 freestyle (1:01.92), Biltcliffe in the 50 breaststroke (34.39) and the 100 breaststroke (1:17.45), and Grant in the 50 freestyle (27.28) and the 50 butterfly (29.13).

Grant also swam a leg on the Bears' 200 freestyle relay squad (1:50.78) along with classmate Makaila Williams (Hyde Park, Mass.), senior Sarah Rechtiene (Southbury, Conn.) and junior Michaela Pereira (Rehoboth, Mass.).

Rechtiene and Williams teamed with junior Svetlana Loranger (East Freetown, Mass.) and freshman Amanda Brennen (Waltham, Mass.) to capture top honors in the meet-opening 200 medley relay (2:04.45).

Rechtiene added an individual victory in the 500 freestyle (5:48.54), while Loranger placed first in the 100 butterfly (1:08.79) and Brennen was the top finisher in the 100 individual medley (1:10.13).

Senior Kendra Perry (Middleboro, Mass.) chipped in with a win in the 1,000 freestyle (12:57.24).

For Elms, freshman Ashlee Connors (Springfield, Mass.) placed first in both the 50 backstroke (31.12) and 100 backstroke (1:10.32) events.

Both teams are back in action on Saturday afternoon at one. The Bears host Roger Williams University, while the Blazers travel to Mount Saint Mary College.
