Women's Swimming & Diving Edges UMass Dartmouth, 121-118

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's swimming and diving team posted a 121-118 victory over host UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday evening.

Bridgewater State improves to 2-1 on the season in dual meet competition with the victory.

Senior Sarah Rechtiene (Southbury, Conn.) and freshmen Abbie Grant (Mansfield, Mass.) and Mikaila Williams (Hyde Park, Mass.) paced the visiting Bears as they each won an individual event and swam a leg on a winning relay.

Rechtiene captured top honors in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:52.04, while Grant placed first in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:36.37.  Williams was the first to touch the wall in the 50 freestyle as she recorded a time of 27.80 seconds.

Rechtiene, Grant, Williams and freshman Amanda Brennen (Waltham, Mass.) clinched the meet for the Bears with a victory in the final event of the day, the 400 freestyle relay (3:55.78).

Senior Kristen Carey (East Taunton, Mass.) added a victory in the 1,000 freestyle (12:03.30) to round out the Bears' individual winners, while junior Michaela Pereira (Rehoboth, Mass.), sophomores Sarah Biltcliffe (Fall River, Mass.) and Mikaela Ross (Andover, Mass.) and freshman Rebecca Foster (Billerica, Mass.) each swam a leg on the first place 200 medley relay team (2:05.24). 

The BSU swimming and diving teams return to UMass Dartmouth on Saturday (noon) for the Louise Goodrum Invitational.
