Swimming & Diving Teams Host Arsenault Memorial Relays

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University swimming and diving teams hosted the Third Annual Michael Arsenault Memorial Relays on Saturday afternoon at the Mary Jo Moriarty Pool in Bridgewater.

Bridgewater State finished first in the women's team standings followed by Colby-Sawyer College and UMass Dartmouth.  The Bears also captured top honors on the men's side with UMass placing second and Colby-Sawyer finishing third.

The relay meet was created in 2012 to honor the BSU swimming and diving program's only All-America Swimmer, Michael Arsenault.  Michael, who passed away in March of 2008 at the age of 52, earned NCAA Division III All-America honors in the 50 freestyle in 1976.

Bridgewater won eight relay events on the evening and one diving.  On the men's side, the Bears won the 200 freestyle crescendo, the 200 medley, the 100 freestyle, the 400 freestyle and the three-meter diving chalange.  The women captured the 400 4x100 individual medley, the 300 butterfly crescendo, the 100 freestyle and the 300 breaststroke crescendo.

Senior Kendra Perry (Middleboro, Mass.) was part of three winning relays on the women's side, while freshman Charles Anderson (Avon, Conn.) and sophomore Kyle Swordstrom (Brookline, Mass.) were each part of three winning relays for the BSU men's squad.  Senior David Elofson(Mansfield, Mass.) captured the three-meter diving challenge.

"It is fantastic to start the year off with such a great event," said BSU Head Coach Mike Caruso.  "This meet is truly a special tribute to one of the greatest swimmers to ever compete at Bridgewater State."
