Women's Swimming & Diving Posts 138-117 Win at Western New England

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's swimming and diving team posted a 138-117 dual meet victory over host Western New England University on Wednesday evening at the Alumni Healthful Living Center pool in Springfield.

The Bears, who touched the wall first in 12 of 14 events, upped their dual meet record to 3-2 on the young season.  The host Golden Bears even their record at 1-1.

Seniors Ashley Dunican (Bennington, Vt.) and Chelsea Nolan (Lowell, Mass.) and junior Sarah Rechtiene (Southbury, Conn.) each won multiple events to pace the Bears.

Dunican took home top honors in the 50 backstroke (31.91) and 100 backstroke (1:09.93) events, while Nolan won both the 1,000 freestyle (12:25.43) and 500 freestyle (6:05.63). Rechtiene placed first in the 50 freestyle (27.83) and the 100 breaststroke (1:14.19).

Nolan and Rechtiene also swam a leg on the Bears' 200 freestyle relay squad (1:54.38) along with senior Nelia Borden (Westport, Mass.) and junior Kristen Carey (East Taunton, Mass.).

Borden and Carey also competed on BSU's winning 200 medley relay team (2:04.32) along with freshmen Sarah Biltcliffe (Fall River, Mass.) and Mikaela Ross (Andover, Mass.).  Carey added a win in the 200 freestyle (2:12.96).

Biltcliffe, junior Kendra Perry (Middleboro, Mass.) and sophomore Michaela Pereira (Rehoboth, Mass.) also recorded individual victories in the 50 breaststroke (33.94), 100 individual medley (1:09.87) and 100 freestyle (1:00.69), respectively.

With a commanding, 138-87 lead through 12 events, the Bears swam each of the last two races as exhibitions.
