Swimming & Diving Teams Compete at the UMD Louise Goodrum Invitational

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University swimming & diving teams competed at the Louise Goodrum Invitational hosted by UMass Dartmouth on Saturday.

In the non-scoring meet, the BSU women's team captured first place in four individual events, while the men's squad won three individual events and one relay.

On the women's side, senior Chelsea Nolan (Lowell, Mass.) led the way with a pair of victories in the 500 freestyle (5:52.29) and 1,000 freestyle (19:34.07) events.  Junior Sarah Rechtiene (Southbury, Conn.) added a win in the 200 freestyle (2:10.74), while sophomore Michaela Pereira (Rehoboth, Mass.) touched the wall first in the 100 freestyle (1:00.04).

Junior John Holmes (Norwood, Mass.) paced the BSU men with multiple wins in the 50 freestyle (23.17) and 100 freestyle (52.77) events.  Holmes also swam a leg on the Bears' first place 200 freestyle relay along with junior Todd Avery (Brewster, Mass.), sophomore Zachary Sarapas (Franklin, Mass.) and senior Charles MacDonald (Braintree, Mass.).  MacDonald added a victory in the 100 backstroke (1:06.70).

In upcoming dual meet action, the BSU women travel to Western New England University on Wednesday, while both teams will head to Clark University next Saturday.
