Women's Swimming & Diving Posts 206-62 Win over Regis

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's swimming and diving team placed first in 14 of 15 events as the Bears cruised to a 206-62 victory over visiting Regis College on Saturday at the Mary Jo Moriarty Pool in Bridgewater.

Bridgewater evens its dual meet record at 1-1, while Regis slips to 1-2.

BSU senior Chelsea Nolan placed first in both the 1000 freestyle (12:01.49) and 500 freestyle (6:03.23) events, while classmate Ashley Dunican touched the wall first in the 50 backstroke (31.89) and 100 backstroke (1:10.35) and junior Sarah Rechtiene took top honors in the 200 freestyle (2:07.22) and 100 breaststroke (1:14.13).  Junior Kendra Perry rounded out the Bears' double-event winners as she won the 100 butterfly (1:08.58) and 200 individual medley (2:26.95).

Also winning swimming events for the hosts were sophomore Michaela Pereira in the 100 freestyle (1:01.04), junior Kristen Carey in the 50 butterfly (31.31) and senior Nelia Borden in the 50 freestyle (27.84).

BSU freshman Mary Woodbury placed first on the one-meter diving board with a score of 141.40 points.

The Bears' foursome of Dunican, Rechtiene, Carey and Borden opened the meet with a winning time of 2:01.89 in the 200 medley relay.  The quartet of Rechtien, Perry, Carey and senior Ariel Gillis closed things out with a first place time of 1:51.17 in the 200 freestyle relay.

The Bears return to the pool on Tuesday when they host UMass Dartmouth in a dual meet starting at six.
