Rechtiene Leads Women's Swimming During Day Two of NEISDA Championships

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vt. – Bridgewater State University freshman Sarah Rechtiene (Southbury, Conn.) broke the school record in the 100 breaststroke to lead the women's swim team during day two of the 2012 New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Division II/III Championships held at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center.

Rechtiene posted a time of 1:10.33 in the 100 breaststroke to place 11th in the event as she eclipsed Jillian Coache's previous BSU standard of 1:10.63 set back in 2008.

The Bears' 200 medley relay squad consisting of Rechtiene, senior Renee Marcos (Lakeville, Mass.) and sophomores Ashley Dunican (Bennington, Vt.) and Nelia Borden (Fall River, Mass.) finished 12th overall with a time of 1:58.24.

Freshman Kristen Carey (East Taunton, Mass.) added a 15th place showing in the 200 freestyle (2:06.55), while classmate Kendra Perry (Middleboro, Mass.) finished 15th in the 400 individual medley (5:09.73).  Carey and Perry also swam a leg on the Bears' 11th place 800 freestyle relay (8:33.47) along with Borden and sophomore Chelsea Nolan (Lowell, Mass.).

Bridgewater is currently in 13th place in the women's team standings with 228 points.  Bentley University leads the way with 1,054 points followed by Keene State College (974 pts.) and Assumption College (797 pts.).  The three-day championship meet concludes on Sunday.
