BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - The Bridgewater State College women's swimming and diving team knocked off visiting Westfield State College, 157.5-138.5, this afternoon at the Mary Jo Moriarty Pool in Bridgewater.
The Bears, who placed first in 11 of the 14 swimming events, improve to 5-4 in dual meet competition on the season. Westfield falls to 4-3.
Junior Bryn Morwick (Indianapolis, IN) and freshman Jennifer Jason (Montague, MA) paced the Bears with four victories apiece. Morwick placed first in the 1,000 freestyle (11:28.94), 50 freestyle (:26.79) and 500 freestyle (5:39.97) events, and also swam on BSC's winning 400 freestyle relay team (3:55.83). Jason won three individual events in the 100 butterfly (1:06.46), 100 breaststroke (1:15.39) and the 200 individual medley (2:26.79). She also swam a leg on the first place 200 medley relay team (2:01.99).
BSC seniors Sarah Fuller (Palmer, MA) and Erica Robinson (Lynn, MA) each picked up individual victories in the 100 freestyle (:58.59) and 100 backstroke (1:06.45) respectively. They also competed on both of the winning relay teams.
Freshman Kimi Schmidt (Longmeadow, MA) led the way for Westfield as she won both diving events. Schmidt registered a score of 222.00 points on the one-meter board and tallied 245.00 points on the three-meter.
The Bears travel to Bentley College on Tuesday night (6:30 PM) for a tri-match with Wheaton College and host Bentley. Westfield heads to Saint Joseph College (CT) on Wednesday night for a 7 PM meet with the Blue Jays.
