Women's Soccer Blanks MCLA on Senior Day, 3-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's soccer team wrapped up regular season play with a 3-0 shutout victory over MLCA in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) matchup on Saturday evening at Mazzaferro Field. The game also marked Senior Day for the host Bears.

The Bears (10-5-1) finished the regular season unbeaten in MASCAC play with a perfect 7-0 conference mark. The MASCAC regular season title marks the Bears' first since 2017 and seventh in program history. Bridgewater has an opening round bye in next week's MASCAC Tournament and will host a semifinal round game next Friday night at seven o'clock. The Trailblazers wrapped up the season with an overall record of 3-9-3 (0-6-1 MASCAC).

Bridgewater State is 28-8-4 all-time against MCLA including a 19-2-1 mark at home.

Senior forward Stephanie Spear (Blackstone, Mass.) opened the scoring in the fourth minute with her first goal of the season. Spear banked in a tough angle shot from the right side off the back post. Senior defender Sydney Dewhurst (East Bridgewater, Mass.) assisted on the goal.

Sophomore midfielder Jenna Sweeney (Wilmington, Mass.) extended the BSU lead to 2-0 in the 18th minute with her second marker of the 2023 campaign. Sweeney tucked a left-footed one-timer under the crossbar off a crossing pass sent into the six by Spear with junior defender Bailey Brown (Plymouth, Mass.) also assisting on the goal.

Sophomore forward Olivia Robarge (Pepperell, Mass.) made it a 3-0 game in the 76th minute with her fifth goal of the season. Dewhurst intercepted an MCLA clearing attempt and quickly slipped a pass to freshman midfielder Samantha Blanchard (Brockton, Mass.) stationed outside the 18. Blanchard found a cutting Robarge who beat the oncoming keeper with a shot into the left side of the net.

Bridgewater outshot MCLA, 31-0, and held a 7-0 edge in corner kick attempts.

Sophomore goalkeeper Logan Levesque (Bristol, R.I.) did not face a shot as she earned her ninth win of the season and fifth solo shutout.

Sophomore netminder Eva Eberwein (Dalton, Mass.) was very busy between the pipes for the Trailblazers as she made 15 saves including a number of diving stops.

Prior to the start of the game, the Bears honored Spear, Dewhurst and fellow seniors Megan Keller (Northborough, Mass.), Makenna Lessard (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and Audra McDuffie (Millbury, Mass.).
