Women's Soccer Battles UMass Boston to 1-1 Tie

BOSTON, Mass. -- The visiting Bridgewater State University women's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie with UMass Boston on Wednesday night at James Cotter Field.

The Bears (9-5-1) notched their first tie of the season while the Beacons (6-4-8) played in their eighth tie game.

UMB sophomore midfielder Andrea Rivera (San Juan, P.R.) broke a scoreless tie in the 54th minute with her sixth goal of the 2023 campaign. Rivera intercepted an attempted clear by the Bears and blasted a shot from outside the 18 that clipped the bottom of the crossbar and settled into the back of the net.

Less than two minutes later, BSU senior defender Sydney Dewhurst (East Bridgewater, Mass.) knotted the score at 1-1 with her team-leading ninth goal of the season. Sophomore forward Olivia Robarge (Pepperell, Mass.) sent a corner kick towards the back post and Dewhurst drove a header into the center of the cage.

The Beacons held a 15-8 shot advantage for the game as well as a 5-2 edge in corner kick attempts.

Sophomore goalkeeper Logan Levesque (Bristol, R.I.) made six saves between the pipes for Bridgewater State. Junior netminder Isabella O'Connell (Abington, Mass.) played the first 45 minutes in goal for UMass and turned aside four shots. Sophomore keeper Julia Cote (Baldwinville, Mass.) came on to start the second half for the Beacons and was not credited with a save.

Both teams wrap up regular season play on Saturday. The Bears entertain Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) foe MCLA at five o'clock while the Beacons travel to Eastern Connecticut State University for a one o'clock Little East Conference (LEC) matchup with the Warriors.
