Women's Soccer Blanks Lesley, 1-0

LEXINGTON, Mass. – The visiting Bridgewater State University women's soccer team posted a 1-0 shutout victory over Lesley University on Tuesday night at Minuteman Field.

The Bears improve to 5-4 on the season with the win, while the Lynx fall to 6-4. Bridgewater holds a 2-0 lead in the all-time series as the two teams met for the first time just last season.

Sophomore forward Skylar Conrad (Walpole, Mass.) broke a scoreless tie with just under four minutes remaining in the first half. Conrad ran onto a long volley from senior defender Sydney Dewhurst (East Bridgewater, Mass.) on the left side, beat a defender one-on-one and slipped a shot from the top of the 18 just inside the left post.

That would be the only scoring of the game.

Freshman forward Rebecca Russo (Shrewsbury, Mass.) nearly got the Bears on the board earlier in the stanza. Russo's shot from the right side in the 33rd minute was turned away on a terrific diving stop by junior goalkeeper Lauren Lacy (Colorado Springs, Colo.). Just moments later, BSU sophomore netminder Logan Levesque (Bristol, R.I.) made a leaping snag of long shot by senior forward Haile Carrillo-Hayes (Chatsworth, Calif.) to keep the game scoreless.

Levesque also made an outstanding kick save on a point-blank range shot by Carrillo-Hayes in the 61st minute to help preserve the shutout. Sophomore defender Rachel Weinzimer's (Woodland Hills, Calif.) follow-up shot sailed just over the crossbar.

Levesque finished with four saves on the evening as she picked up her 15th collegiate win and ninth career shutout. Lacy turned aside three shots in the setback.

Lesley finished with a 12-10 shot advantage for the game as well as a 4-1 edge in corner kick attempts.

In upcoming action, the Bears host Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) foe Salem State University on Saturday at noon. The Lynx entertain Fisher College on Thursday night at eight o'clock.
