Women's Soccer Blanks Framingham State, 2-0

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – The visiting Bridgewater State University women's soccer team posted a 2-0 shutout victory over Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) foe Framingham State University on Saturday at Maple Street Field.

With the victory, the Bears improve to 4-4 on the season and a perfect 3-0 in the MASCAC. The Rams drop to 1-7 overall and 1-2 in conference play. Bridgewater State now holds a 27-12-2 all-time edge over Framingham State in women's soccer.

Senior defender Sydney Dewhurst (East Bridgewater, Mass.) drove a header attempt into the back of the cage off a corner kick served into the box by junior midfielder Mia Chrisafideis (Marlborough, Mass.) in the ninth minute to give the Bears the early 1-0 lead. The goal marked Dewhurst's team-leading fourth of the season.

The Bears extended the lead to 2-0 in the 57th minute as sophomore midfielder Jenna Sweeney(Wilmington, Mass.) tallied her first goal of the 2023 campaign. Chrisafideis beat a defender one-on-one near the goal line outside the 18 and sent a cross to an open Sweeney who one-timed a shot into the left side of the net. For Chrisafideis, the assist was her team-leading fourth of the 2023 campaign.

Bridgewater held a decided 30-5 shot advantage for the game as well as a 10-1 edge in corner kick attempts.

BSU junior goalkeeper Tori Gemellaro (Wilmington, Mass.) turned aside four shots to record her first collegiate win and shutout.

Senior netminder Jetta Oskirko (Lancaster, Mass.) made nine saves between the pipes for Framingham State.

In upcoming action, the Bears travel to Lesley University on Tuesday night for an eight o'clock game with the Lynx. The Rams host the Owls of Keene State College on Wednesday afternoon at 4:30.
