Women's Soccer Blanks Suffolk, 3-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's soccer team posted a 3-0 shutout victory over visiting Suffolk University on Thursday night at Mazzaferro Field.

The Bears improve to 1-1 on the young season while the visiting Rams fall to 1-1-1. The two teams were meeting for just the second time as Bridgewater recorded a 5-0 shutout victory a year ago in East Boston.

Senior forward Audra McDuffie (Millbury, Mass.) converted a penalty kick in the eighth minute to give the Bears the early 1-0 lead. For McDuffie, who also drew the foul, the goal marked her team-leading second of the season.

Junior forward Mia Chrisafideis (Marlborough, Mass.) extended the BSU lead to 2-0 just over two minutes into the second half. Chrisafideis collected a short crossing pass from sophomore forward Olivia Robarge (Pepperell, Mass.), turned back towards the middle and tucked a shot under the crossbar from 13 yards out for her first collegiate goal.

BSU sophomore Logan Levesque (Bristol, R.I.) knocked one over the crossbar with an outstandng leaping save off a restart in the 51st minute to keep the shutout bid intact.

Robarge knocked home the rebound of Chrisafideis breakaway attempt in the 58th minute to make it a 3-0 game. The goal marked Robarge's first of the season.

The Bears held a 15-5 shot advantage for the game as well as a 5-3 edge in corner kick attempts.

Levesque made three saves to notch her first shutout of the season and fourth of her career.

Freshman goalkeeper Arden Ferrari-Henry (Atkinson, N.H.) turned aside seven shots in the setback for Suffolk.

Both teams are back in action on Saturday afternoon. The Bears entertain Salve Regina University at two o'clock, while the Rams host Massachusetts Maritime Academy at one.
