Five Bears Named to All-MASCAC Women's Soccer Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. --Five Bridgewater State University student-athletes have been voted to the 2019 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Soccer All-Conference Team by the league's head coaches.

Senior defender Kaitlyn Bongarzone, senior forward Alana Vincent and sophomore midfielder Cassie Brown garnered All-MASCAC First Team honors, while senior goalkeeper Kellie Souza and junior defender Samantha Tomaszewski were named to the All-MASCAC Second Team.

Vincent is making her third appearance on the All-MASCAC Team, while Bongarzone is making her second. Brown, Souza and Tomaszewski are each first time honorees. Vincent was named to the second team last season and earned first team accolades in 2016. Bongarzone was a second team selection in 2017.

All five played and started all 21 games this season.

A native of Mansfield, Massachusetts, Bongarzone tallied a goal and three assists for five points in 2019. She wrapped up her outstanding four-year career with four goals and 11 assists for 19 points in 75 games.

Vincent, who hails from Taunton, Massachusetts, led the MASCAC with a career-high 18 goals, nine game-winning goals and 43 points in 2019. She also tied for third in the conference in assists. On a national level, Vincent is currently tied for third in all of Division III in game-winning goals, and is tied for 32nd in both goals and points.

In 63 career games over four seasons with the Bears, Vincent notched 35 goals and 13 assists for 83 points with 14 of her 35 goals being game-winners. She ranks fourth all-time at Bridgewater State in both goals and scoring.

Brown scored a pair of goals in her sophomore campaign at Bridgewater State including one game-winner. The Augusta, Maine product cracked the Bears' starting lineup after appearing in ten games and making one start as a freshman in 2018.

A native of Wilmington, Massachusetts, Souza set program single-season goaltending records for games played (21), game started (21) and minutes played (1917:31). She finished with 12 wins and seven shutouts in 2019 to go along with 114 saves, a .755 save percentage and a 1.74 goals against average. Souza led the MASCAC in games, minutes, wins and shutouts, and ranked fourth in goals against average. She is also currently tied for second in all of Division III in minutes played.

Souza wrapped up her four seasons at BSU with 21 wins and ten shutouts (nine solo) in 40 career games She also finished with 198 saves, a 1.58 goals against average and a .759 save percentage.

Tomaszewski tallied a goal and four assists for six points in her junior campaign. The Sterling, Massachusetts native has appeared in 47 career games (24 starts) since arriving at Bridgewater State in 2017.

The BSU women's soccer team wrapped up the 2019 campaign with an overall record of 12-9 including a 5-2 conference mark. Seeded fourth in the MASCAC Tournament, the Bears posted a 4-1 quarterfinal round win over #5 Framingham State University before stunning top-seeded Westfield State University in the semifinals, 1-0, in double overtime. In the tournament title game, the Bears dropped a heart-breaking 1-0 decision in double overtime to #3 Worcester State University.
