Lauren DeSousa Named MASCAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the second time this season, Bridgewater State University junior goalkeeper Lauren DeSousa has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Soccer Player of the Week.

DeSousa notched a pair of shutouts in two games (200 minutes) for the Bears last week. The Taunton, Massachusetts product made six saves in a 2-0 non-conference win over UMass Boston, and turned aside six shots in a 0-0 double overtime tie against Worcester State University.

In the double overtime tie with the Lancers, DeSousa set the Bears' single-season record for shutouts as she increased her season total to 9 1/2. DeSousa eclipsed BSU Hall of Famer Tracey Ullathorne's previous program mark of nine shutouts set back in 1993.

Through 16 games this season, DeSousa is 6-5-5 with the 9 1/2 shutouts and a 0.53 goals against average in over 1,520 minutes of work (1520:15). She also has 81 saves to her credit and checks in with a .901 save percentage.

DeSousa currently leads the MASCAC in goals against average, save percentage, shutouts and minutes played. She is also tied for third in wins.

In 34 games over her first two seasons with the Bears, DeSousa has produced a record of 16-12-6 with 16 1/2 shutouts and 177 saves. She has a career goals against average of 0.83 with a .859 save percentage.

The BSU women's soccer team wrapped up regular season play with an overall record of 6-5-5 including a 4-1-2 mark in the MASCAC. Seeded third in this week's MASCAC Tournament, the Bears will host #6 Fitchburg State University in a quarterfinal round matchup on Tuesday night at seven.
