Lauren DeSousa Named MASCAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University sophomore goalkeeper Lauren DeSousa has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Soccer Player of the Week.

DeSousa posted a 0.50 goals against average with ten saves, a shutout and a .909 save percentage in a 1-1 week for the Bears. The Taunton, Massachusetts native made five saves in the Bears' 1-0 MASCAC shutout over Salem State. She also turned aside five shots in a 1-0 setback to regionally ranked Roger Williams University.

In 12 games this season, DeSousa is 8-4 between the pipes with six shutouts, 63 saves and a 0.75 goals against average. She currently leads the MASCAC in wins, shutouts and minutes played (1080:00), and ranks third in both goals against average and save percentage (.875) and fifth in saves.

DeSousa's six shutouts are the most by a BSU keeper since current goaltending coach Emily Schlosser recorded seven in 2004.

As a freshman last season at Division II Pace University, DeSousa started 17 games and made 19 appearances in goal for the Setters as she went 6-5 with 40 saves and a 0.82 goals against average.

The BSU women's soccer team is 8-4 on the season and a perfect 4-0 in the MASCAC. The Bears entertain MASCAC rival Fitchburg State University on Saturday at noon.
