Women's Soccer Plays to Double Overtime Scoreless Draw

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University and visiting UMass Boston played to a double overtime scoreless draw in non-conference women's soccer action on Tuesday afternoon at Swenson Field.

The host Bears see their record go to 9-6-1 with the tie, while the Beacons stand at 4-11-3.

Senior Kristin Reardon (Weymouth, Mass.) and sophomore Courtney Banzi (Plymouth, Mass.) combined to make 11 saves in goal for Bridgewater State, while freshman Alyssa Fugiel (Easthampton, Mass.) turned aside 12 shots between the pipes for UMass Boston.

Shots were even at 22 apiece, while UMass held a 6-2 edge in corner kick attempts.

Bridgewater State had the best chance in regulation as freshman midfielder Kellsie Mitchell (Bristol, R.I.) was sent in on a semi-breakaway coming from the right side in the 79th minute. Mitchell sent a shot towards the far post that was stopped by Fugiel who made a terrific sprawling save.

The Beacons had a goal taken away due to an offside call with 6:36 remaining in the second overtime period. UMass freshman forward Jaclyn O'Grady (Somers, Conn.) had a golden opportunity to pot the game-winner with under two minutes left to play, but Banzi made a great diving stop on a shot labeled for the far post.

O'Grady led all players with six shots, while BSU senior forward Marissa Yowell (Ashland, Mass.) paced the Bears with five. Senior defender Allison LeBel (Millis, Mass.) and junior midfielder Drew Guay (Fall River, Mass.) also finished with four shots apiece for the hosts.

Both teams wrap up regular season play on Saturday. The Bears travel to Worcester State University for a key MASCAC game with the Lancers starting at 11:00 AM. The Beacons head to Plymouth State University for a 2:30 Little East match-up with the Panthers.
