WALTHAM, Mass. -- The 25th ranked Brandeis University women's soccer team scored two goals in the first half, and another one late to put the game away, in a 3-1 non-conference victory over Bridgewater State University on Tuesday.

The Judges opened the scoring nine minutes into the contest when junior Lea McDaniel (Phoenix, Ariz.) found the back of the net after a deflection outside the box. It was McDaniel's third goal in as many games.

Brandeis went up 2-0 in the 26th minute on a well-placed direct free kick near the left sideline by senior Holly Szafran (Homewood, Ala.). It was her second goal of the season.

The Bears cut the lead in half in the 73rd minute on a goal by freshman midfielder Caitlin Rowley (Lakeville, Mass.), assisted by senior defender Olivia Planty (Litchfield, N.H.), following a scramble in the box after a corner kick. It was Rowley's first career goal as well as the first of the year for Bridgewater State.

The Judges answered in the 84th minute when senior Alec Spivack (Miami, Fla.) found freshman Sasha Sunday (Bethlehem, Pa.) with a cross. Sunday chipped the ball over the keeper and into the left netting for her first collegiate goal.

Brandeis outshot Bridgewater State, 26-3, including 16-3 in shots on goal.

For the Judges, senior Katy Lehmann (Houston, Texas) did not face a shot in 70 minutes of action in her first career start. Rookie Emma Marx (Kildeer, Ill.) made two spectacular leaping saves in her collegiate debut. The first came against Planty before the corner kick that produced the goal. The second was on sophomore forward Courtney Pepin (Uxbridge, Mass.) moments after Bridgewater made it a one-goal game.

Bridgewater State sophomore keeper Lauren DeSousa (Taunton, Mass.) turned aside 13 shots in the setback. DeSousa has 28 saves over the first three games.

Brandeis is now 3-0, while Bridgewater State falls to 0-3. 

The Judges are back in action at Thursday at 4 PM against Regis College, while the Bears entertain Plymouth State University on Saturday afternoon at one.
