Women's Soccer Drops 2-1 Decision to Salem State in Overtime

SALEM, Mass. -- Sara Previte (Beverly, Mass,) notched her fist goal of the season in overtime to lift the Salem State Vikings past the Bridgewater State Bears in MASCAC women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.

The win pushes Salem State (7-5-4, 4-2-1 MASCAC) into the No. 4 seed in the upcoming Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament, where they will host fifth seed Bridgewater State (6-11, 3-4 MASCAC) on Tuesday evening at six in a rematch.

Salem got on the board when Julia McDermot (Melrose, Mass.) rifled a long-distance shot into the back of the net. The contest, which was played in a steady rain, became a game of possession, as the wind was a factor, limiting both offenses as the Vikings clung to a 1-0 lead at the half.

Salem State's defense was staunch in the second half, but the Bears' Mackenzie Hatfield (Whitman, Mass.) scored on a free kick in the 84th minute to tie the game at 1-1.  The goal marked Hatfield's team-leading 14th of the season.

The Vikings held the edge in play during the overtime period, outshooting the Bears 5-0, with the last being Previte's game-winner in the 99th minute.

Salem State's Rachel Ledbetter (Dracut, Mass.) stopped two shots while the Bears' Kristin Reardon (Weymouth, Mass.) made four saves.
