Women's Soccer Drops 4-2 MASCAC Decision to Framingham State

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- Senior Isabela DeSouza (Framingham, Mass.) headed in a long cross from classmate Marisa Parent (Revere, Mass.) in the 67th minute to break a 2-2 tie and propel the Framingham State University Rams to a 4-2 victory over Bridgewater Sate University on Saturday afternoon at Maple Street Field. The goal was one of three on the day for DeSouza.

The contest was the first conference game for both teams. Framingham State improves to 4-2 (1-0 MASCAC) with the win, while the Bears fall to 2-4 (0-1 MASCAC).

The Rams took the lead in the 23rd minute when DeSouza hit a long floating shot towards the net from 35 yards out that was out of the reach of the leaping goalkeeper. The Bears answered just a few minutes later on the first of two goals by junior Mackenzie Hatfield (Whitman, Mass.). Hatfield won a 50/50 ball, dribbled past the goalie and deposited a shot into the back of the unguarded net.

The teams then traded goals before halftime with DeSouza and Hatfield scoring again for the Rams and Bears, respectively. Hatifield's tally came on a penalty kick. The Rams added an insurance goal in the 85th minute when Parent scored after a long lead pass by sophomore Angela Pallotta (Sterling, Mass.).

Sophomore Jess Anthony (Stoneham, Mass.) earned the win in goal after starter Sara Sullivan (Quincy, Mass.) left with an injury. Anthony made two saves and didn't allow a goal in 46:45 in net. Sullivan made two saves before the injury. Freshman Courtney Banzi (Plymouth, Mass.) made 10 saves for the Bears.

Hatfield, who has five goals and one assist in the past three games, moved past Michelle Rhodes (2001-04) into sixth place on the Bears' all-time scoring list as she now has 62 career points (22G, 18A).

The Bears head to Salve Regina University on Tuesday afternoon for a 3:30 non-conference game with the Seahawks.
