Women's Soccer Drops 6-1 Decision to Brandeis

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Brandeis University women's soccer team potted three goals within the first eight minutes of the game as the visiting Judges rolled to a 6-1 non-conference victory over Bridgewater State University on Tuesday afternoon at Swenson Pitch.

Brandeis improves to 3-1 on the season with the win, while Bridgewater slips to 0-3.

Freshman forward Samantha Schwartz (Highland Park, Ill.) paced the Judges with two goals and an assist, while senior forward Sapir Edalati (Great Neck, N.Y.) tallied a goal and assisted on two others.

Schwartz opened the scoring just 1:16 into the contest as she slipped a shot inside the left post from 12 yards out off a short pass from Edalati.   The Judges made it a 2-0 game less than three minutes later as junior midfielder Haley Schachter (West Barnstable, Mass.) scored off the rebound of Edalati's header on a corner kick.  Edalati capped off the three-goal outburst in the eighth minute as she rifled a shot under the cross bar from 20 yards out with sophomore defender Julia McDermott (Hopedale, Mass.) picking up the assist.

The score remained 3-0 in favor of the  Judges until the 66th minute when Schwartz notched her second goal of the game and fourth of the season off a crossing pass from sophomore forward Cidney Moscovitch (Coral Spring, Fla.).  Senior midfielders Alec Spivack (Miami, Fla.) and Alyssa Fenenbock (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) rounded out the goal scoring for Brandies. Spivack found the back of the net in the 73rd minute with Schwartz notching the assist, while Fenenbock scored off an assist from freshman forward Haliana Burns (Charlotte, Vt.) in the 84th minute.

The Bears broke up the shutout bid in the 87th minute as senior midfielder Kaitlin Delaney (Centerville, Mass.) notched her first goal in a BSU uniform.  Senior defender Ashley Aldred (Saugus, Mass.) set up the goal as she broke up an attempted clearing pass in the offensive zone and deflected the ball out to Delaney.  Delaney rocketed a shot from 35 yards out that deflected off the goalkeepers outstretched hands and dropped behind the goal line.

Brandeis held a 40-3 shot advantage for the game as well as an 8-0 edge in corner kicks.

Sophomore goaltender Alexis Grossman (Syosset, N.Y.) picked up the win between the pipes for the Judges.  Grossman did not face a shot in 45 minutes of action.

For the Bears, freshman Courtney Banzi (Plymouth, Mass.) made 11 saves while sophomore Emma Titus (Salem, Mass.) added nine stops as they each played a half.

Bridgewater begins a four-game road swing on Saturday night as the Bears travel to Plymouth State University for a seven o'clock game with the Panthers.  Brandeis entertains UMass Boston on Saturday afternoon at two.
