Women's Soccer Falls to UMass Boston, 3-1

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Junior forward Krista Ledin (Bridgewater, Mass.) recorded her third hat trick of the season to lead the visiting UMass Boston women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Bridgewater State University on Tuesday afternoon at Swenson Field.

The Beacons improve to 14-4 on the season with their eighth straight win, while the host Bears slip to 6-7-2.

Ledin, who entered the game ranked third in all of Division III in goals and points, opened the scoring with less than four minutes remaining in the first half.  Freshman midfielder KK DaCosta (Brockton, Mass.) sent in a corner kick and Ledin redirected the ball out of mid-air and inside the near post.  The teams would head to the intermission with the Beacons holding a 1-0 lead.

Bridgewater tied the game at 1-1 in the 56th minute as junior forward Erica Jonasson (Wrentham, Mass.) converted a penalty kick after being taken down from behind on a semi-breakaway.  For Jonasson, the goal marked her team-leading 14th of the season.

Ledin broke the tie in the 68th minute as she scored on a breakaway off a through ball from senior midfielder Sam Cristoforo (Rockland, Mass.).  She would complete the hat trick in the 86th minute off an assist from senior forward Tayla Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.).

UMass held a 20-10 shot advantage for the game with Ledin taking 11 shots including eight on frame.  The Corsairs also had a 9-2 edge in corner kicks.

Junior Kristen Spain (Quincy, Mass.) made three saves to record her 13th win of the season between the pipes for the Lyons.  Senior netminder Kerry Condon (Whitman, Mass.) turned aside eight shots in the setback for the Bears.

Both teams are back in action for their regular season finales on Saturday at one.  The Bears entertain MASCAC rival Salem State University, while the Beacons host Little East Conference foe Rhode Island College.
