Women's Soccer Falls to Bowdoin, 4-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Senior midfielder Dana Riker (Cape Elizabeth, ME) and freshman forward Stacie Sammott (Brampton, ON) each tallied a goal and an assist to lead the Bowdoin College women's soccer team to a 4-0 shutout victory over host Bridgewater State College this afternoon in Bridgewater.

The Polar Bears improve to 6-4 on the season, while BSC drops to 4-6-2.

Riker opened the scoring with her fourth goal of the season off an assist from Sammott in the 11th minute. Freshman forward Nicole Fossi (Chevy Chase, MD) notched an unassisted tally in the 31st minute as Bowdoin led 2-0 at the intermission.

Sammott potted her first goal of the season off a corner kick in 64th minute as she picked up a loose ball in front of the goal mouth and knocked it into the unguarded net. Junior Defender Tiernan Cutler (Sacramento, CA) rounded out the scoring in the 83rd minute as she also scored her first goal of the season. Cutler headed in a corner kick served into the box off the foot of Riker.

Junior goaltender Kat Flaherty (Fairfield, CT) made two saves to record her third shutout of the season for the Polar Bears.  BSC junior netminder Kayla Grover (Haverhill, MA) turned aside ten shots between the pipes for the Bears.

Bridgewater will travel to Salem State College on Saturday (1:00 PM) for a key MASCAC game with the Lady Vikings.  Bowdoin hosts NESCAC rival Williams College on Saturday at 1:30 PM.
