BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior Kevin McBirney has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week.

McBirney was the Bears’ top runner this past weekend at the 50th Annual UMass Dartmouth Invitational which featured student-athletes from all three NCAA divisions. The East Birdgewater, Massachusetts native completed the eight-kilometer course in a personal-best time of 25:28.89 to place 27th out of a field of 299 runners. McBirney broke the 26-minute mark for the first time in his career as he bested his previous personal 8K standard of 26:08.5 set in 2021 at the Franklin Pierce Ninth Annual Bruce Kirsh Cup.

The MASCAC Runner of the Week honor marks the first of McBirney's career. He was named MASCAC Rookie of the Week twice during the 2021 campaign.

The BSU men's cross country team is off until Saturday, September 30th when the Bears travel to Keene, New Hampshire for the Keene State Invitational.
