Men's Cross Country Competes at New England Regionals

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's cross country team competed at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Cross Country Championships hosted by Westfield State University on Saturday at Stanley Park.

The Bears placed 23rd overall in the team standings.

Freshman Trevor Wysong (Taunton, Mass.) was the Bears top harrier at the meet as he covered the eight-kilometer course in a time of 26:12.92 to finish 83rd overall. Freshman Joseph Keough (Walpole, Mass.) recorded a time of 27:00.93 (124th place), while freshman Joseph Celia (Bridgewater, Mass.) crossed the line in 27:35.36 (165th place) to round out BSU's top three runners.

Senior Tim Nichols of Tufts University won the individual championship with a time of 23:54.58.

MIT captured the team title while Williams College, Amherst College, Middlebury College, Tufts and Colby College rounded out the top six. MIT and Williams automatically qualified for the NCAA Division III Championship.

Amherst, Middlebury, Tufts and Colby are among those that will be competing for at large bids to the NCAA Division III Championships. In total, 16 teams nationwide will qualify at the discretion of the USTFCCCA selection committee. Each region is limited to a maximum of six teams.
