Andy Sukeforth Named MASCAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the  third time this season, Bridgewater State University senior Andy Sukeforth has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week.

Sukeforth was named the MASCAC Runner of the Year as the top conference finisher at the 2014 MASCAC Men's Cross Country Championships held this past weekend at the Mount Greylock High School course.  The Middleboro, Massachusetts native covered the eight-kilometer layout in a time of 26:30.23.

Sukeforth returned to the Bears’ cross country lineup this season after sitting out the 2013 campaign.  He was named the MASCAC Men’s Cross Country Rookie of the Year and earned all-conference honors in the fall of 2012.

An outstanding track athlete as well, Sukeforth captured multiple MASCAC individual titles for the BSU indoor and outdoor track and field teams from 2011 to 2013.  He garnered All-New England Division III honors in the mile during the 2012-2013 indoor season, and the 1,500-meter run during the 2013 outdoor campaign, and was an All-ECAC selection in both the 1,000-meter run (winter ‘11-‘12) and the 4x800 (spring 2013).

Sukeforth currently holds BSU indoor record in both the mile (4:12.17) and the 1,000-meter run (2:29.69). He also ran a leg on the Bears’ record-setting 4x800-meter relay team (7:52.81).

The BSU cross country teams will compete on Saturday at the ECAC Division III Championships hosted by Westfield State University at Stanley Park.
