Andy Sukeforth Named MASCAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the third time this season, Bridgewater State University senior Andy Sukeforth has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week.

Sukeforth captured the conference individual title at the MASCAC Championships held this past weekend at Mount Greylock High School in Williamstown. The Middleboro, Massachusetts product covered the eight-kilometer course in a time of 26:30.23 as he outdistanced the field of 116 MASCAC harriers by 33 seconds.

Sukeforth also finished second out of 177 competitors in the New England Alliance results as he garnered All-New England Alliance honors.

Bridgewater State placed second in the MASCAC team standings behind conference champion Westfield State University.  The Bears also finished third in the Alliance results trailing only first place Keene State College and runner-up Westfield.

A two-time all-conference runner, Sukeforth returned to the Bears’ cross country lineup after sitting out the 2013 campaign.  He was named the MASCAC Rookie of the Year and earned all-conference honors in the fall of 2012.

An outstanding track athlete as well, Sukeforth captured multiple MASCAC individual titles for the BSU indoor and outdoor track and field teams from 2011 to 2013.  He garnered All-New England Division III honors in the mile during the 2012-2013 indoor season, and the 1,500-meter run during the 2013 outdoor campaign, and was an All-ECAC selection in both the 1,000-meter run (winter ‘11-‘12) and the 4x800 (spring 2013).

Sukeforth currently holds BSU indoor record in both the mile (4:12.17) and the 1,000-meter run (2:29.69). He also ran a leg on the Bears’ record-setting 4x800-meter relay team (7:52.81).

On Saturday, the BSU cross country teams will compete at the ECAC Division III Championships hosted by Westfield State University at Stanley Park.
