Andy Sukeforth Named MASCAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior Andy Sukeforth has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week.

A native of Middleboro, Massachusetts, Sukeforth placed fifth out of a field of 255 runners at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational this past weekend.  He covered the eight-kilometer layout in a time of 25:10.29 as he finished just 22 seconds off the course-winning time of 24:48.30.

Sukeforth returns to the Bears’ cross country lineup after sitting out the 2013 campaign.  He was named the MASCAC Men’s Cross Country Rookie of the Year and earned all-conference honors in the fall of 2012.

An outstanding track athlete as well, Sukeforth captured multiple MASCAC individual titles for the BSU indoor and outdoor track and field teams from 2011 to 2013.  He garnered All-New England Division III honors in the mile during the 2012-2013 indoor season, and the 1,500-meter run during the 2013 outdoor campaign, and was an All-ECAC selection in both the 1,000-meter run (winter ‘11-‘12) and the 4x800 (spring 2013).

Sukeforth currently holds BSU indoor record in both the mile (4:12.17) and the 1,000-meter run (2:29.69). He also ran a leg on the Bears’ record-setting 4x800-meter relay team (7:52.81).

The BSU cross country teams will compete at the Codfish Bowl Invitational on Saturday hosted by UMass Boston.
