Seven Bears Earns All-New England Honors to Lead Men’s Track & Field at DIII New Englands

BOSTON, Mass. -- Seven members of the Bridgewater State University men's track & field team garnered All-New England status on Sunday at the Division III New England Indoor Track & Field Championships held at The Track at New Balance.

The top eight placewinners in each event at the DIII New England Championships garner All-New England honors.

Graduate student Corey Stalters (Norton, Mass.) placed third in the shot put with a toss of 51 feet, 11.75 inches (15.84m).

Senior Thomas Barinelli (Tewksbury, Mass.) finished fifth in the long jump with a leap of 22 feet, five inches (6.83m).

Junior Kevin McBirney (East Bridgewater, Mass.), sophomore Michael Neitlich (Middleboro, Mass.) and the 4x400-meter relay squad rounded out the Bears' All-New England performers.

McBirney placed sixth in the 800-meter run with a career-best time of 1:53.78 while Neitlich crossed the finish line in a career-best time of 1:22.87 to place seventh in the 600-meter run. Neitlich, freshman Jordan Rivera-Silva (Attleboro, Mass.) and juniors Stephen Spofford (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Charles Dakai (Millville, Mass.) finished eighth the 4x400 with a time of 3:23.05.

The Bears finished in 14th place in the team standings with 16 points.

Qualifying members of the BSU men's track & field team with compete on Saturday at the NEICAAA Indoor Track & Field Championships also held at The Track at New Balance. Select Bears may also compete at the Tufts Qualifying Meet on the same day.
