Men’s Indoor Track & Field Captures MASCAC/New England Alliance Titles

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Bridgewater State University men's track & field team captured both the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) and New England Alliance Indoor Track & Field championships on Saturday at the Providence Career & Technical Academy.

The Bears captured the MASCAC title with a team score of 232 points. Westfield State University finished second with 153 points while defending champion Worcester State University (126 pts.) rounded out the top three.

Bridgewater won the New England Alliance meet with a score of 138.5 points as the Bears edged defending champion University of Southern Maine (124 pts.). UMass Dartmouth placed third with 103 points.).

The Bears have now won three MASCAC and New England Alliance indoor championships as they also won both titles in 2013 and again in 2015.

Sophomore Trevor Wysong (Taunton, Mass.) won both the MASCAC and New England Alliance individual championship in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:22.11.

The Bears' foursome of senior Michael Kotleski (Great Barrington, Mass.) and sophomores Kyle Cordeiro (Westport, Mass.), Lamont Haynes (Boston, Mass.) and Joshua Higgins (Fitchburg, Mass.) captured both titles in the 4x400-meter relay. The squad set a MASCAC meet record with a time of 3:25.40.

Higgins was also the top MASCAC runner in the 600-meter run as he set the MASCAC meet record with a time of 1:21.91. Higgins placed second in the Alliance results.

Senior Cameron Williamson (North Easton, Mass.) captured the MASCAC triple jump title and placed second in the Alliance with a mark of 46 feet, nine inches (14.25m).

Sophomore Jacob Connor (Plymouth, Mass.), senior Zack Viera (Fairhaven, Mass.), junior Joseph Keough (Walpole, Mass.) and freshman Dylan Lynch (East Taunton, Mass.) teamed up to win the MASCAC championship in the 4x800-meter relay with a time of 8:19.83. The quarter placed third in the Alliance.

Keough was also the top MASCAC harrier in the 1,000-meter run (2:34.30), while Lynch won the MASCAC title in the 800-meter run (2:01.13). Keough and Lynch finished third and fourth, respectively, in the Alliance results.

Next Saturday, qualifying members of the BSU men's indoor track & field team will compete at the Division III New England Championships hosted by Middlebury College.
