Carlson Garners All-New England Honors in Decathlon

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University sophomore Jamie Carlson (Maynard, Mass.) garnered All-New England honors in the decathlon during day two of the 2017 Division III New England Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Williams College on Friday.

Carlson recorded an overall score of 5,045 points to place sixth at the meet. During today's events, he tallied 549 points in the pole vault (12'3.5"/3.75m), 543 points in the discus throw (111'6"/33.98m), 515 points in the javelin (147'8"/45.01m), 497 points in the 110-meter hurdles (18.29) and 303 points in the 1,500-meter run (5:50.85).

Carlson's top finish was in the discus as he placed first. He also placed third in the javelin and tied for third in the pole vault.

On Thursday, Carlson notched 595 points in the 100-meter dash (12.29), 592 points in the shot put (38'7.5"/11.77m), 519 points in the long jump (18'7.75"/5.68m), 504 points in the high jump (5'5"/1.65m) and 428 points in the 400-meter dash (59.57).

Sophomore Austin Maskell (Weymouth, Mass.) also competed for the Bears on Friday. Maskell finished 16th in the hammer thrown with a toss of 142 feet, eight inches (43.49m).

The third and final day of the Division III New England Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships will get underway on Saturday morning at ten.
