Higgins Leads Men's Track & Field at NEICAAA Championships

ROXBURY, Mass. -- Freshman Joshua Higgins (Fitchburg, Mass.) garnered All-New England honors in two events to lead the Bridgewater State University men's track & field team during the second and final day of the 49th Annual New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Indoor Track & Field Championships held on Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center.

The two-day meet featured competition from Divisions I, II and III in New England. The top eight in each event score and earn All-New England status.

Higgins placed eighth in the finals of the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:05.85 to capture All-New England honors.

The Bears' 4x400-meter relay featuring Higgins, fellow freshmen Kyle Cordeiro (Westport, Mass.) and Lamont Haynes (Boston, Mass.), and junior Michael Kotleski (Great Barrington, Mass.) placed seventh in the event to earn All-New England accolades. The foursome posted a season-best time of 3:21.03.

Junior Brayden Hollowell (Nashua, N.H.) finished 14th in the shot put with a toss of 45 feet, 10.5 inches (13.98m), while classmate Cameron Williamson (North Easton, Mass.) finished 17th in the triple jump with a leap of 43 feet, 2.25 inches (13.16m).

Northeastern University won the team title at the meet with 177 points. The University of Rhode Island followed in second place with 114 points, while Southern Connecticut State University (74.5 pts.) rounded out the top three. The Bears finished in a tie for 27th place with three points.

Next Saturday, several members of the BSU men's indoor track & field team will compete at the Tufts Final Qualifying Meet.
