Murtagh Leads Men's Indoor Track & Field at Tufts Invitational

MEDFORD, Mass. – Senior Conor Murtagh (Walpole, Mass.) captured the meet title in the 60-meter hurdles to lead the Bridgewater State University men's indoor track & field at the Tufts Invitational on Saturday.

The Bears placed fourth out of eight teams with a score of 67 points. The host Jumbos won the team title with 175.50 points followed by UMass Lowell (164 pts.) and Worcester State University (146.50 pts.).

Murtagh posted a finals time of 8.28 in the hurdles as he qualified for all three regional postseason meets. Murtagh, who earned All-American honors in the hurdles last season, is currently ranked fifth in all of Division III in the event.

Senior Chinedu Chukwu (Randolph, Mass.) placed third in the 60-meter dash with a finals time of 7.08 seconds. Chukwu, who garnered All-American accolades in the 60 last season, qualified for both the DIII New England Championships and the ECAC Championships in the event. He also finished second in the 200-meter dash (23.31).

Senior Andrew Couture (Dighton, Mass.) finished fifth in the 60-meter dash with a finals time of 7.14 seconds.

Sophomore Cameron Williamson (Easton, Mass.) added a second place showing in the triple jump with a leap of 42 feet, 0.75 inches (12.82m).

Next Saturday, the BSU track & field teams will compete at the Maroon & White Classic hosted by Springfield College.
