Men's Track & Field Competes at Maroon & White Classic

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Four Bears captured individual titles to lead the Bridgewater State University men's indoor track & field team at the Maroon & White Classic hosted by Springfield College on Saturday.

Senior Conor Murtagh (Walpole, Mass.) placed first in the 60-meter hurdles with a finals time of 8.32 seconds. Fellow senior Andrew Couture (Dighton, Mass.) posted a finals time of 7.11 seconds to win the 60-meter dash, while classmate Kevin Sawyer (Woburn, Mass.) had the top performance in the 400-meter dash (52.28). Junior Justin Lucier (Attleboro, Mass.) won the mile run (4:37.93) to round out the Bears' event winners.

Bridgewater State placed fifth in the team standings with 84 points. Worcester State University captured the team title with 183.50 points followed by Westfield State University (146 pts.) in second place and host Springfield College (101 pts.) in third

Senior Chinedu Chukwu (Randolph, Mass.) finished second in the 60-meter dash (7.13) as he was just 2/100 of a second off Couture's winning time.

The Bears' foursome of Chukwu, Murtagh, freshman Tyler Keeley (Halifax, Mass.) and sophomore Michael Kotleski (Great Barrington, Mass.) placed second in the 4x200-meter relay (1:34.59).

Lucier, sophomore Joseph Kisamore (Attleboro, Mass.) and freshmen Nick Costa (Carver, Mass.) and Adrian Higgins (Milton, Mass.) added a second place showing in the 4x800-meter relay.

Next Saturday, the Bears will compete at the BU John Thomas Terrier Classic and the Wheaton Invitational.
