Men's Indoor Track & Field Competes at MASCAC/Alliance Championships

PLYMOUTH, N.H. -- The Bridgewater State University men's indoor track & field team competed at the MASCAC/New England Alliance Championships hosted by Plymouth State University on Saturday afternoon.

The Bears placed fourth in the MASCAC standings with 99 points. Westfield State University captured the team title with 220 points follewed by Worcester State University (152 pts.) and Fitchburg State University (109 pts.).

BSU also finished in fourth place in the New England Alliance standings with 76 points. The University of Southern Maine won the Alliance Championship with 163.50 points. Westfield State (133 pts.), UMass Dartmouth (80.50 pts.) and Worcester State (75.50 pts.) rounded out the top five.

Seniors Chinedu Chukwu (Randolph, Mass.) and Conor Murtagh (Walpole, Mass.) and sophomore Cameron Williamson (Easton, Mass.) each garnered MASCAC and Alliance titles in their respective events.

Chukwu placed first in the 60-meter dash with a season-best time of 6.99 seconds in the finals. Murtagh captured top honors in the 60-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 8.17 seconds in the finals. Williamson posted a personal-best mark of 46 feet, 5.5 inches (14.16m) to win the triple jump.

The Bears 4x200-meter relay squad of Chukwu, Murtagh, sophomore Michael Kotleski (Great Barrington, Mass.) and freshman Alex Goss (North Dighton, Mass.) won the MASCAC title with a time of 1:33.10.

Senior Kevin Sawyer (Woburn, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' MASCAC Champions as he posted a time of 1:23.41 in the 600-meter run.

Next weekend, qualifying members of the BSU men's indoor track & field team will compete at the Division III New England Championships hosted by MIT.
