Murtagh Leads Men's Indoor Track & Field at DIII New Englands

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Senior Conor Murtagh earned All-New England honors in the 60-meter hurdles to lead the Bridgewater State University men's indoor track & field team at the 2016 Division III New England Championships hosted by MIT on Saturday.

Murtagh placed second in the hurdles with a finals time of 8.195 seconds as he was just 1/1000 of a second off Michael Kaba's (MIT) winning time of 8.194. Murtagh, who posted a season-best time of 8.15 seconds in the preliminaries, currently ranks sixth in all of Division III in the event.

Sophomore Cameron Williamson (Easton, Mass.) was the only other Bear to place in the top ten as he finished tenth in the triple jump with a mark of 43 feet, six inches (13.26m).

Senior Andrew Couture (Dighton, Mass.) added an 11th place finish in the 60-meter dash (7.14), while classmate Kevin Sawyer (Woburn, Mass.) placed 12th in the 600-meter run (1:23.84).

The Bears tied for 19th in the team standings with eight points. The host Engineers captured the team title with 138 points followed by Williams College (132 pts.) and Tufts University (74 pts.).

Next weekend, qualifying members of the BSU men's track & field team will compete at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Championships hosted by Boston University.
