Murtagh, Goehring Eclipse School Marks at NEICAAA Championships

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Seniors Conor Murtagh (Walpole, Mass.) and Josh Goehring (Haverhill, Mass.) both eclipsed their own school records and earned All-NEICAAA honors to lead the Bridgewater State University men's track & field team during the second and final day of the 2016 New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Championships hosted by Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday.

Murtagh placed second in the finals of the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.13 seconds. He broke his own mark of 14.17 seconds set last season at the NCAA Division III Championships.

Goehring finished seventh in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:51.09. He knocked off his previous BSU record of 1:51.44 set last season at the ECAC Division III Championships.

Murtagh currently ranks third in all of Division III in the 110 hurdles, while Goehring is 12th overall in the 800.

Senior Andrew Couture (Dighton, Mass.) also garnered All-NEICAAA honors for the Bears as he placed fifth in the finals of the 100-meter dash with a career-best time of 10.78 seconds. Couture was just 4/100 of a second off Brian Espinosa's program mark of 10.74 seconds.

Couture, Murtagh, sophomore Michael Kotleski (Great Barrington, Mass.) and freshman Alex Goss (North Dighton, Mass.) finished 14th overall in the 4x100-meter relay with a season-best time of 42.82 seconds.

BSU's 4x800-meter relay squad featuring junior Justin Lucier (Attleboro, Mass.), sophomores Liam Connors (New Bedford, Mass.) and Joseph Kisamore (Attleboro, Mass.), and freshman Adrian Higgins (Milton, Mass.) placed 13th with a season-best time of 8:02.62.

The Bears finished in 17th place in the meet standings with 14 points. Division I Northeastern University won the team title with 156 points, followed by URI (127.5 pts.) and host Southern Connecticut (65 pts.).

Next Wednesday and Thursday, qualifying members of the BSU men's outdoor track & field team will compete at the ECAC Division III Championships hosted by Westfield State University.
