NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Seniors Conor Murtagh (Walpole, Mass.) and Andrew Couture (Dighton, Mass.) advanced to the finals of their respective events to lead the Bridgewater State University men's track & field team during day one of the 2016 New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Southern Connecticut State University on Friday.
Murtagh placed first in the preliminaries of the 110-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 14.24 seconds.
Couture finished fifth in the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash with a career-best time of 10.80 seconds.
The top eight performers in premlinary events advance to Saturday's finals.
Couture also placed ninth in the preliminaries of the 200-meter dash with a career-best time of 22.06 seconds, while classmate Kevin Sawyer (Woburn, Mass.) finished ninth in the preliminaries of the 400-meter hurdles with a career-best time of 54.86 second.
The NEICAAA Championship meet will conclude on Saturday.
