Men's Outdoor Track & Field Places 3rd at MASCAC Championships

DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's outdoor track & field team finished third at the the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Championships hosted by UMass Dartmouth on Saturday.

The Bears posted a score of 128 points as they finished behind MASCAC champion Westfield State University (247 pts.) and runner-up Worcester State University (183 pts.).

Six different Bears captured individual MASCAC titles as well as a pair of relays.

Seniors Andrew Couture (Dighton, Mass.) and Conor Murtagh (Walpole, Mass.), sophomore Cameron Williamson (Easton, Mass.) and freshman Alex Goss (North Dighton, Mass.) placed first in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 42.85 seconds.

Couture won both the MASCAC and New England Alliance titles in the 100-meter dash as he edged Dominic Nda of UMass Boston by 2/1000 of  second. Couture recorded a time of 10.958 seconds.

Murtagh also won both the MASCAC and New England Alliance championships in the 110-meter hurdles. Murtagh posted a preliminary time of 14.64 seconds and a finals time of 14.70 seconds.

Williamson captured the MASCAC individual title in the triple jump with a leap of 44 feet, 7.50 inches (13.60m).

Senior Josh Goehring (Haverhill, Mass.) placed first in both the MASCAC and New England Alliance results in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.55.

Senior Kevin Sawyer (Woburn, Mass.) in the 400-meter hurdles (55.32) and freshman Joseph Keough (Walpole, Mass.) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase rounded out the Bears' MASCAC individual champions.

Goehring, Sawyer, classmate Carlton Williamson (Easton, Mass.) and sophomore Michael Kotleski (Great Barrington, Mass.) won the MASCAC title in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:20.56.

The Bears also finished fifth in the New England Alliance standings with a score of 87 points. 

Next weekend, the BSU men's outdoor track & field team will compete at the Division III New England Championships hosted by Springfield College.
