Men's Outdoor Track & Field Places Second at ECSU Invitational

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. -- The Bridgewater State University men's outdoor track & field team finished second at the 9th Annual ECSU Invitational on Friday.

The Bears posted a score of 151 points to finish behind meet champion and host Eastern Connecticut State University (225 pts.).

Senior Kevin Sawyer (Woburn, Mass.), junior Justin Lucier (Attleboro, Mass.) and sophomore Cameron Williamson (Easton, Mass.) each captured individual events to pace the Bears.

Sawyer recorded a season-best time of 55.89 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles, while Lucier completed the 1,500-meter run with a season-best time of 4:10.35.

Williamson qualified for the ECAC Division III Champions in the triple jump with a season-best mark of 44 feet, 7.5 inches (13.60m).

Freshman Brandon Houle (Cumberland, R.I.) placed second in the javelin with a season-best mark of 164 feet, three inches (50.07m). Houle qualified for the Division III New England Championships in the event.

Sophomore Brayden Hollowell (Nashua, N.H.) added a second-place showing in the shot put (44'9.75"), while classmate Nicholas Simonetti (Dartmouth, Mass.) finished second in the high jump (5'10"/1.78m).

Next weekend, the BSU outdoor track & field teams will compete at the MASCAC/New England Alliance Championships hosted by UMass Dartmouth.
