Men's Outdoor Track & Field Competes at Jerry Gravel Classic

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Senior Conor Murtagh (Walpole, Mass.) and sophomore Cameron Williamson (Easton, Mass.) each won individual events to lead the Bridgewater State University men's outdoor track & field team at the Jerry Gravel Classic hosted by Westfield State University on Saturday.

Murtagh captured top honors in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.83 seconds, while Williamson placed first in the triple jump with a leap of 42 feet, 9.75 inches (13.05m).

Murtagh and Williamson also competed on the Bears' 4x100-meter relay team along with senior Andrew Couture (Dighton, Mass.) and freshman Alex Goss (North Dighton, Mass.). The foursome placed third in the event with a season-best and ECAC Division III Championships qualifying time of 43.15 seconds.

Couture added a second-place finish in the 100-meter dash (11.08) and a third-place showing in the 200-meter dash (22.87).

Senior Kevin Sawyer (Woburn, Mass.) finished second in the 400-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 56 seconds flat. Sawyer qualified for the ECAC Championships in the event.

Sophomore Brayden Hollowell (Nashua, N.H.) and freshman Joseph Keough (Walpole, Mass.) both qualified for the Division III New England Championships in their respective events. Hollowell placed third in the shot put (45'0.50"/13.73m) while Keough finished third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:04.83).

Senior Josh Goehring (Haverhill, Mass.) checked in with a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter dash (50.47), while sophomore Michael Kotleski (Great Barrington, Mass.) finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (56.43).

The Bears placed fourth in the team standings with 80 points.

The season continues for the BSU outdoor track & field teams next Friday as the Bears travel to Eastern Connecticut State University for the 8th Annual ECSU Invitational. Several members of the squad will be competing at the Larry Ellis Invitational hosted by Princeton University also on Friday.
