Men's Outdoor Track & Field Hosts Season-Opening BSU Bears Invitational

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's outdoor track & field team hosted the season-opening BSU Bears Invitational on Saturday at chilly Swenson Field.

The non-scoring meet featured 23 men's squads from the New England area.

The Bears posted seven first place performances led by senior returning All-American Conor Murtagh (Walpole, Mass.) who captured top honors in the 110-meter hurdles. Murtagh recorded a time of 14.88 seconds as he qualified for all three regional postseason meets.

Senior Josh Goehring (Haverhill, Mass.) won two events as he was the top finisher in both the 800-meter run (2:00.77) and the 1,500-meter run (4:07.66).  

Senior Andrew Couture (Dighton, Mass.) placed first in the 200-meter dash with a DIII New Englands qualifying time of 22.48 seconds.

Sophomore Michael Kotleski (Great Barrington, Mass.) notched the top time in the 400-meter hurdles and qualified for DIII New Englands with a time of 56.45 seconds. Senior Kevin Sawyer (Woburn, Mass.) also qualified for DIII New Englands in the 400 hurdles as he finished second with a time of 57.05 seconds.

Kotleski and Sawyer also placed first in the 4x400-meter relay as they teamed with classmate Carlton Williamson (Easton, Mass.) and freshman Adrian Higgins (Milton, Mass.). The foursome recorded a time of 3:28.08.

Junior Justin Lucier (Attleboro, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' event winners as he grabbed top honors in the 5,000-meter run (15:43.99).

Next Saturday, the Bears will compete at the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Classic.
