Andy Sukeforth Named MASCAC Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior Andy Sukeforth has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.

Sukeforth recorded a season-best time of 3:51.96 in the 1,500-meter run at the Larry Ellis Invitational hosted by Princeton University this past weekend. The Middleboro, Massachusetts product currently ranks 11th in all of Division III in the event.

Last month, Sukeforth qualified for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships in the one-mile run and placed 11th with a time of 4:15.94. He also earned All-New England Division III honors in the 1,000-meter run.

During his career with the BSU track & field teams, Sukeforth has captured multiple MASCAC individual titles. He also garnered All-New England Division III honors in the mile during the 2012-2013 indoor season, and the 1,500-meter run during the 2013 outdoor campaign, and was an All-ECAC selection in both the 1,000-meter run (winter '11-'12) and the 4x800 (spring 2013).

Sukeforth holds BSU indoor records in the mile (4:08.76) and the 1,000-meter run (2:29.69). He also ran a leg on the Bears' record-setting outdoor 4x800-meter relay team (7:52.81).

This past fall, Sukeforth earned All-New England honors at the Division III New England Men's Cross Country Championships and competed at the NCAA Division III National Championship meet where he finished 113th overall out of a field of 280 harriers. Sukeforth was also named the MASCAC Runner of the Year and garnered All-MASCAC accolades for the second time in his career.

In upcoming action, the BSU track & field teams compete at the MASCAC/New England Alliance Championships on Saturday hosted by Fitchburg State University.
