Chris Perry Named MASCAC Men's Outdoor Field Co-Athlete of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior Chris Perry has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Outdoor Field Co-Athlete of the Week.

Perry shares the weekly honor along with Westfield State University freshman Dereck Stone.

A resident of Attleboro, Massachusetts, Perry earned All-NEICAAA honors and eclipsed the Bears’ outdoor record in the triple jump at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association) Championships.

Perry placed third in the event with a leap of 48 feet, 8.75 inches (14.85 meters) as he surpassed Joshua Danner-Hicks' previous BSU outdoor mark of 48 feet, 5.25 inches set last season at the NCAA Division III Championships.

Perry currently ranks fifth in all of Division III in the triple jump

This marks Perry's seventh MASCAC Field Athlete of the Week award and second of the outdoor season. He also achieved the honor for his performance at the MASCAC/New England Alliance Championships in April, as well as five times during the winter indoor campaign.

This past March, Perry garnered All-American honors in both the triple jump and long jump at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships as he placed second (48'4.75"/14.75m) and third (22'10"/6.96m), respectively, in the two events.

Perry accounted for 14 of Bridgewater State's 20 team points at the meet as the Bears finished tied with Southern Maine for sixth place in the overall standings. It marked the highest placing by a BSU indoor or outdoor track & field team at an NCAA Championship meet in the history of the program.

Back in January, Perry broke the school indoor record in the triple jump at the Dartmouth Relays with a mark of 48 feet, 9.5 inches (14.87 meters).  He eclipsed Joshua Danner-Hicks' previous BSU indoor standard of 48 feet, six inches (14.78 meters) set last season.

Perry also equaled classmate Brian Espinosa's long jump mark of 23 feet, 4.50 inches (7.12 meters) at the ECAC Division III Championships in March.

The postseason continues for qualifying members of the BSU outdoor track & field teams on Thursday and Friday when they compete at the ECAC Division III Championships hosted by Springfield College.
