BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior Conor Murtagh has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.
A native of Walpole, Massachusetts, Murtagh captured top honors in the 110-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 14.72 seconds this past weekend at the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Classic. He helped the Bears capture the meet title with a team score of 118 points.
Murtagh currently ranks fifth in all of Division III in the hurdles.
Last month, Murtagh earned All-American honors in the 60-meter hurdles at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships. He placed fourth in the event with a finals time of 8.09 seconds and also recorded a school record time of 7.96 seconds in the preliminaries.
Murtagh also holds the Bears' indoor mark in the 55-meter hurdles (7.69) which he set in 2014. He also shattered the program outdoor record in the 110-meter hurdles (14.56) at the NCAA Division III Championships last spring on his way to capturing All-American honors in the event.
Next weekend, the BSU track & field teams compete at the Westfield State Invitational.
Notes: Murtagh was named MASCAC Men's Indoor Track athlete of the Week five times this past winter....Murtagh was also selected the MASCAC Men's Soccer Player of the Year last fall.
