Brian Espinosa Named MASCAC Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University senior Brian Espinosa has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week.

Espinosa captured top honors in the long jump at the 8th Annual ECSU Invitational with a season-best mark of 23 feet, four inches (7.11 meters). The Rehoboth, Massachusetts product also placed first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.72 seconds as he helped the Bears win the meet title.

Earlier this season at the Tufts Snowflake Classic, Espinosa eclipsed a 23-year old school record in the 100-meter dash.  The Rehoboth, Massachusetts product posted a time of 10.74 seconds as he eclipsed BSU Hall of Famer Tim Mann's previous mark of 10.75 seconds set back in 1991.

Espinosa currently ranks 13th in all of Division III in the 100, 14th in the long jump and 16th in the 200.

In three years on the BSU track & field team, Espinosa has six individual records and three relay marks to his credit.  Along with his 100 record, Espinosa also owns BSU outdoor standards in the 200-meter dash (21.38) and the 4x100 relay (41.64). He is the Bears' indoor record-holder in the 55-meter dash (6.53), the 200-meter dash (21.62), the 400-meter dash (49.17), the long jump (23'4.5"), the 4x200 relay (1:29.45) and the 4x400 relay (3:19.14).

Last spring, Espinosa earned All-American honors in the long jump as he placed seventh at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a leap of 22 feet, 11.75 inches (7.00 meters).  He also garnered All-American accolades with an eighth place finish in the 200-meter dash (21.85 finals/21.77 prelims) at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships last March.

Espinosa made a return trip to the NCAA Indoor Championships back in March and placed ninth in the 200-meter dash.

The schedule continues for the BSU track & field teams on Saturday when they compete at the MASCAC/New England Alliance Championships.
