Five Bears Earn All-ECAC Track & Field Honors

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Five Bears garnered All-ECAC honors to highlight the Bridgewater State University men's track & field team during day two of the 2015 ECAC Division III Indoor Championships.

Senior Chris Perry (Attleboro, Mass.) equaled teammate Brian Espinosa's (Rehoboth, Mass.) school record in the long jump with a leap of 23 feet, 4.50 inches (7.12 meters).  Perry finished third in the event at the meet.

Junior Conor Murtagh (Walpole, Mass.) placed second in the 60-meter hurdles with a finals time of 8.07 seconds.

Senior Chinedu Chukwu (Randolph, Mass.) and junior Andrew Couture (Dighton, Mass.) placed third and eighth respectively, in the the 60-meter dash.  Chukwu posted a finals time of 6.95 seconds, while Couture registered a time of 7.05 seconds.

Junior Kevin Sawyer (Woburn, Mass.) finished eighth in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:06.43 to round out Saturday's All-ECAC performers.

On Friday, BSU's 4x200-meter relay squad featuring freshmen Cameron Williamson (Easton, Mass.), Colin Knapton (Mattapoisett, Mass.) and Hueston Brathwaite (Randolph, Mass.) and senior Joseph Danner-Hicks (Haverhill, Mass.) posted a time of 1:30.24 to place seventh and earn All-ECAC accolades.

The Bears finished in 11th place at the meet with 24 team points. Amherst College captured the team title with 42 points.  The Jeffs were followed in the standings by Brockport State (41.5 pts.) and Cortland State (41.5 pts) who finished tied for second.

Next weekend, qualifying members of the BSU men's track & field team will compete at the NCAA Division III Championships hosted by Roanoke College. The qualifiers for the national championship meet will be announced on Monday morning at 9:00 AM.
